We had a delightful stay recently at Casa Obelisco, a new bed and
breakfast in San Francisco, Mexico, a small, friendly fishing
village about 30 miles north of Puerto Vallarta.
We wanted a small, non-touristy town, a short walk to the beach
and a few interesting bars and restaurants. We found all this and
more.
Casa Obelisco has four spacious rooms, each with its own terrace
and a view of the ocean. The sound of the waves lulled us to sleep.
The abundant breakfast, served in the open-air bar next to the pool,
practically held us over until the happy hour on the rooftop terrace
where we watched the sunset.
Our hosts, Judi and John Levens, served as mentors, historians
and restaurant advisers. San Francisco has warm breezes, quiet
streets, shady palm trees on the beach, friendly people, open-air
restaurants and a prevailing sense of calm.

One of the best references received was in the form of a poem
from one of our guests. A Poem about Casa Obelisco
How many shades of hisbiscus can bloom in one
place?
There’s bougainvillea too, a palm lifts green
fingers in the air, you see a hummingbird amidst the morning
glory, the unknowns of this new world fall into place.
Palapa, pool, your tiled room, hibiscus on
the bed and in a vase,
the rituals of breakfast calms you down; all
that commotion you call home, the absurd pace,
too many meetings too much to do fades away;
if you hang out with your hosts Judi and John, Barb and Bill who
used to do the hardware and the software thing you’ll learn the
fine art of doing almost nothing.
You sit around considering the question what will you do today,
walk into town or lie around and listen to the ocean sing?
Thanks for the poem Naomi,
Judi, John, Barbara and Bill
